Harry Styles fans go wild over Prince Eric of The Little Mermaid casting rumours
One Direction supporters across the world couldn’t believe their luck on Wednesday night when it was reported that Harry Styles had bagged a lead role in the brand-new Disney flick.
On Twitter, some users were claiming that the singer had officially landed the role of Prince Eric in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
But others countered the reports, saying they were completely made up and that no one had been given the role as of yet.
It all kicked off when a site called The DisInsider, which claims to be an “exclusive daily source of Disney news,” confirmed that Harry had been cast in the role.
Though they didn’t quote any legitimate sources, they said: “The DisInsider has been recently informed that Styles has officially signed on to the project.”
Instantly, Twitter went into overdrive with “Prince Eric” and “Harry Styles” beginning to trend across the globe.
Major brands like clothing chain Pretty Little Thing and US cinemas AMC and Regal tweeted out the news, though their posts were later deleted.
Sadly, hopes were dashed when CBS Interactive employee Jim Viscardi then tweeted: “The hunt for Prince Eric continues, Harry Styles isn’t confirmed….yet.”
Unfortunately, One Direction fans are no closer to finding out the truth, as Disney is remaining tight-lipped on the subject.
The lead role of Ariel in the live-action flick has already been cast, with 19-year-old beauty Halle Bailey having scooped up the top spot.
Pop sensation Harry has already proven his acting chops in the 2017 film Dunkirk, which saw him play a soldier fighting against the Germans in WWII.
Since then, the 25-year-old hunk has been in the running for the role of Elvis in the brand new biopic – but lost out to US actor Austin Butler.
Daily Star Online has approached Harry Styles’s representatives for comment.
