Some Are Calling Coachella 2019 “Billiechella” after Billie Eilish Performs Debut Set Before Star-Studded Crowd

Last year, Beyonce created a landmark popular culture moment when she was the first woman of color to headline Coachella. And she did not take the opportunity lightly, performing more than two hours on stage at the event with reportedly more than 100 dancers, band members and backup singers supporting her mammoth stage show.

When she was done, the 2018 Coachella Festival would forever be known as “Beychella.”

Well, when Billie Eilish took the stage last night for her 30 minute set, she had none of the expectations, stage show or legendary status that Beyonce had for her Coachella appearance. Heck, Billie is not even a headliner at this year’s festival, where most of the publicity has surrounded Ariana Grande’s scheduled main stage appearance.

However, something was happening, as the festival’s organizers struggled to deal with the massive overflow crowd for Billie’s set — and a long technical delay that pushed Billie’s start-time late into the evening. Many celebs, actors, musicians and models — including Lady Gaga, James Charles, Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner — had managed to squeeze into the show to see Billie’s debut set.

And, apparently, they were not let down. Performing in front of a crowd that seemed to know every lyric of Billie’s songs — sometimes better than Billie — the young horror-pop singer delivered what many festival-goers and longtime-fans said was the best performance of her career.

Today, some music critics and reporters were actually calling this year’s festival in the Southern California desert “Billiechella” after the 17-year ol singer’s landmark performance. We’re guessing that, if Billie decides to attend Coachella again next year, festival organizers will likely make room for her on the main stage …

We have some clips from Billie’s energetic set below.
