Gareth Southgate ponders England call-up for in-form Leicester ace James Maddison
The attacking midfielder has impressed following his £20million move from Norwich over the summer.
Maddison has already scored three times in six games under Claude Puel this season.
And The Telegraph claims Southgate will watch the 23-year-old in action against Newcastle on Saturday.
England are lacking creative options in the centre of the park following injuries to Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Adam Lallana this term.
Chelsea’s Ross Barkley and Tottenham’s Harry Winks are also under consideration.
But Southgate is keen to see Maddison in action ahead of a potential call-up for Nations League games against Croatia and Spain next month.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish reckons he’d be in contention for the Three Lions had his proposed move to Spurs gone through.
Grealish told The Telegraph: “I felt that if I’d gone there I could have maybe been in the England squad by the end of the year.
“It could have got done, but for whatever reason it didn’t [go through].”
