Lucas Torreira learning from Mesut Ozil every day… even though German can't get in Arsenal team

The Uruguayan is enjoying a fine first season in the Premier League after joining from Sampdoria for £26.5m.

And while his form has dipped slightly as the Gunners's unbeaten run came to an end, he is sure to be an integral player for the forseeable future.

Mesut Ozil's future remains unclear, but finding a club who would be able to take on his £350,000-a-week contract is problematic to say the least.

But Torreira has spoke of his delight at being able to work with the likes of retired German international Ozil.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's trip to West Ham on Saturday, Torreira said: "It’s incredible really to be able to be in the same squad as a player like Mesut Ozil and obviously other players too, players that have achieved a lot and have great quality.

"It makes me proud.

"I’m happy to be able to be in the same squad, and I try to learn from them when I’m on the pitch.

"It’s about gelling and trying to enjoy myself on the field of play so that fans have something to shout about."

Ozil is hoping to force his way back into Unai Emery's starting XI – but there is certainly competition for places in that midfield.

And Torreira is pleased to be able to learn from talented operators at the club.

He added: "I think the most important thing for me is hard work and that day-to-day learning.

"I’m part of a squad that has got some stars within it, people who have achieved a lot throughout their entire careers.

"I’m very young but I’m obviously within that squad and able to learn as a result of that. For me, I’m the kind of person who really likes to work hard.

"I like dedicating a lot of time to what I love most, which is football. Then when I’m on the pitch, I try to give 100 per cent and try to help the team in various aspects.

"I’m really motivated to be a part of this team and I want to continue growing as part of this squad, which I think is a very good one."

One midfielder who Torreira better make the most of playing alongside is Aaron Ramsey.

SunSport reported how the 28-year-old Welsh international is set to join Juventus in the summer when his contract at the Emirates runs out.
