Motorbike rider crashes in wet conditions then surfs his own bike over the tarmac in bizarre incident at Austrian Moto2

Japanese star Tetsuta Nagashima looked set for an ugly crash on turn nine of the Austrian track as he lost control in the soaking wet conditions.

But he brilliantly controlled his high-speed smash to avoid injuring himself or others.

As he slipped through the turn, Nagashima, 26, incredibly got his knees up on his now-sideways bike to stop himself scraping along the asphalt.

The bike then floated off the track with the rider escaping completely unhurt, with the entire scene captured live by BT Sport.

Honda Team Asia rider Nagashima only recently returned from another ugly crash.

The Japan rider came off his Kalex machine at high-speed during second practice in Assen, Holland in June this year.

After being rushed to hospital, Nagashima was found to have severely injured his left hand and was flown to Barcelona for surgery.

Nagshima has been racing in Moto2 since 2013 – recording a best championship position of 26th last season.

However, the rider has performed even better this year and currently sits 24th with eight races still to go.
