Newcastle send scouts to watch Olympiakos' Guinea midfielder Mady Camara
In a desperate bid to avoid the Premier League drop, scouts were in attendance at the Greek Superleague clash between Olympiacos and AEK Athens to watch the midfielder in action.
The 21-year-old midfielder had caught Magpies officials' attention during Burnley's fixture against Olympiacos in August.
And, according to sportinastorm, they travelled to Greece on a scouting mission where they were also impressed with Tasos Bakasetas of AEK Athens.
The Guinea international could bolster Newcastle's midfield and as a versatile player he appeals to the Newcastle hierachy.
He also fits the bill of not having a big price-tag, something that will no-doubt please Mike Ashley.
Newcastle fans were raging this summer over their club's lack of spending and Ashley frustrated his well-respected manager by not providing funds to strengthen his squad.
Rafa Benitez was forced to push through deals on a shoestring budget and the club even made a tidy profit of £20million.
Newcastle are desperately trying to avoid the drop, at the moment they're sitting precariously on the edge.
They are yet to win this season.
Newcastle have assured supporters that Mike Ashley is still trying to sell the club as fans are up in arms over the treatment of their club.
Fans and players are desperate for Benitez to stay in the Toon, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The loyal Toon army have felt that Ashley is 'killing' their club, with many using the hashtag, 'if Rafa goes we go'.
