Phil Foden scores first Premier League goal as Man City strike first against Tottenham in grudge clash

PHIL FODEN has scored his first Premier League goal for Manchester City.

The 18-year-old midfielder was handed a start in today's huge game at the Etihad as City look for revenge against Spurs who dumped them out of the Champions League last Wednesday.

And it did not take long for the teenager to repay Pep Guardiola's faith with his early strike in his second-ever top-flight start.

Bernardo Silva cut in from the right to deliver a pin-point cross for Sergio Aguero on the back post who showed the presence of mind to head the ball back across goal for Foden to nod home from close-range.

Foden is now City's third youngest scorer in the Premier League behind Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge.

He also becomes the first player born in the 2000s to score a Prem goal for City.

Foden has now hit six goals in his last 10 appearances in all competitions for his club.

And City fans have taken to social media to show their delight on Foden's special day.

One user tweeted: "Phil Foden is genuinely going to be absolutely great… the amount English young talent is frightening at the moment for other nations."

Tim Harmer added: "I wouldn't say I'm ever pleased when Man City score.

"But Phil Foden scoring means more starts likely, means Gareth Southgate is more likely to pick him, means more of a chance he will be ripping it up for us at Euro2020 next summer."

A win for City will take them back to the top of the table with Liverpool needing to respond at Cardiff on Sunday.
