Samuel Eto'o reveals how he inspired Mohamed Salah to greatness while duo were at Chelsea

Liverpool flier Salah, 26, flopped at the Blues before rebuilding his career in Italy with Roma.

And Eto'o – who had a brief spell at Stamford Bridge from 2013-2014 – insists he knew his team-mate was destined for the top.

He told Qatar's Al Kass Sports Channel: “I hope that Salah remembers the day we were together in Stamford Bridge dressing room after he'd had a poor performance.

“I asked him to be patient and told him ‘You are a good player and you will become a great player'.

“Salah has turned into that big player and will write his own story through persistence and strong desire.

“The whole thing depends on Salah himself, he has unbelievable skills and is currently performing at a top level that's allowing him to compete for Ballon d’Or.”

Salah has gone from strength to strength since leaving Chelsea and is now in the Ballon d'Or conversation.

But it did not always look that way after the Egyptian joined from Basel in 2014.

He played just 19 times in two seasons for the Blues and found the net just twice but quickly established himself in Serie A to earn a Premier League return.

Meanwhile, 37-year-old Eto'o is at Qatar Sports Club as his illustrious career nears its close.
