The Match: Countless reasons why Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson is a must-see event

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on the year, spend time with loved ones, watch some football, and, of course, The Match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

At 3 p.m. ET on Friday at Las Vegas' beautiful and exclusive Shadow Creek, two of the greatest golfers not only of this generation but of all time will square off mano-a-mano in a match-play event for a $9 million prize. Many people, from USA TODAY Sports columnist Christine Brennan to four-time major champion Rory McIlroy, have said they don’t plan to watch The Match.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why. This is something we have never seen before and might not see ever again.

The everyday sports fan will argue it’s $19.99 to watch golf on pay-per-view. They’ll say if an event like this were to happen, it should’ve been 10 years ago, when Woods and Mickelson weren’t well beyond their prime.

Sure, $19.99 may be a bit pricey for an event that could end in an hour if Tiger or Lefty dominate (or fall apart). But an event like this has never, and will never, take place again. Picture LeBron James and Kobe Bryant playing one-on-one.

That’s The Match.
