WWE news: NXT UK TakeOver Blackpool: Predictions for Dunne vs Coffey and Ripley vs Storm

It’s a chance for the British promotion to make its mark and live up to the name of the consistently excellent TakeOver shows from the US. Here Sun Sport runs down the matches and predicts how the action will play out on the night:

UK Championship Match – Pete Dunne (c) v Joe Coffey

Background: With the British Strong Style v Gallus feud raging on NXT UK, the leaders are the respective factions are now set to clash.

Things got nasty at the contract signing two weeks ago. Dunne snapped back Coffey’s fingers and Coffey retaliated by power-bombing Dunne through the table.

Coffey has the momentum going into TakeOver after picking up the pinfall over Tyler Bate in an epic British Strong Style v Gallus six-man tag this week.

Sun Sport Predicts: Dunne is now the longest reigning champion in all WWE, with an impressive 600 days-plus as UK champ.

Coffey is good but he’s not the man to dethrone “The BruiserWeight”.

Pete Dunne should go into WrestleMania season – and whatever’s planned during that time for NXT UK – as defending UK Champion.

NXT UK Women’s Championship Match – Rhea Ripley (c) v Toni Storm

Background: Ripley defeated Storm last month to be crowned the inaugural UK women’s champ.

But Storm had already won the Mae Young Classic so talked her way into another shot at the champ.

It got tense at a press conference last week, as the Aussies came face-to-face for some excruciatingly bad promos.

Sun Sport Predicts: Babyface Toni Storm is the sweetheart of the NXT UK brand – and fan support for her his strong.

Though Ripley has only been champ for a short time, it already feels like time – or “Toni time” as she says – for Storm to win the title.

NXT UK Tag Team Championship Match – Moustache Mountain v Grizzled Young Veterans

Background: The teams have fought their way through a tag team tournament and the winners of this match will be crowned the first ever NXT UK tag champs.

Moustache Mountain – Trent Seven and Tyler Bate – are hugely popular, while the Grizzled Young Veterans – Zack Gibson and James Drake – and two of the brand’s most effective heels.

Sun Sport Predicts: As popular as Seven and Bate are, Gibson and Drake should take the titles here.

Gibson won last year’s UK tournament and he’s being primed as one of NXT UK’s top villains – and don’t rule out interference from Moustache Mountain’s Gallus rivals Mark Coffey and Wolfgang.

No Disqualification Match – Dave Mastiff v Eddie Dennis

Background: The two heavyweights were involved in a pull-apart brawl last week, which prompted GM Johnny Saint to set this no DQ match – a battle to be NXT UK’s top monster.

Sun Sport Predicts: The smart money’s on Welshman Dennis to get the win here – he’s a strong main event prospect.

But can Dennis deliver on his promise to lift up and slam the Black Country “Bomber”?

Jordan Devlin v Travis Banks

Background: This started when Devlin accused Banks of not ringing his mum back in New Zealand often enough (seriously).

It’s now turned into a battle of patriots – the “Irish Ace” v the “Kiwi Buzz Saw”.

Sun Sport Predicts: After reaching the final of the UK tournament last year, Banks is back and getting a push as a babyface star.

Expect him to get the win over smarmy loudmouth Devlin.
