E-Sports won’t be included in the Olympic Games, because they’re ‘too violent’
They’re played by an estimated 320 million people around the world, but it seems that E-sports won’t be included in the Olympic Games any time soon.
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, says that E-sports are too violent to be included in the games.
In particular, Mr Bach highlighted ‘so-called killer games’, which promote violence.
Speaking at the Asian Games, he said: “If you have egames where it’s about killing somebody, this cannot be brought into line with our Olympic values.”
Mr Bach claims that E-sports need to be less violent before they’re considered for future Olympic Games.
He said: “Of course every combat sport has its origins in a real fight among people. But sport is the civilised expression about this," he said.
The news comes just days after two professional gamers were killed by a rival player at a video games tournament in Florida.
