Dina Powell is out of the running for Nikki Haley’s old UN job

Former White House aide Dina Powell is no longer a candidate to replace Nikki Haley as ambassador to the United Nations.

Powell, who was considered a top contender for the diplomatic gig, has decided to stay at her position at Goldman Sachs rather than rejoin the Trump administration, a senior administration official told Reuters.

President Trump had courted Powell for the position.

“Dina is certainly a person I would consider and she’s under consideration,” he said on Tuesday.

Powell formerly served as deputy national security adviser for the president.

Haley announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down by the end of the year.

Trump said four other people were under consideration for the job and he would make a decision within the next few weeks.

Richard Grenell, the US ambassador to Germany, has also been mentioned as one of the contenders for the UN job.
