BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty makes apparent dig at Carol Kirkwood

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty labels weather presenter Carol Kirkwood ‘frosty’ – days after insisting their on-air quips were just ‘banter’

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty makes an apparent dig at weather presenter Carol Kirkwood – just days after their ‘feud’ was shut down as ‘banter’.

On Thursday morning, hosts Naga and Charlie Stayt gave viewers the morning’s latest news, but not without a notable moment which became very awkward on-screen.

With a rumoured feud bubbling under the surface, Naga, 47, light-heartedly told Carol, 60, that her outfit ‘perfectly matched the weather’ which was ‘frosty’.

Awkward! BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty makes an apparent dig at weather presenter Carol Kirkwood – just days after their ‘feud’ was shut down as ‘banter’

Presenting the weather for the weekend ahead, Carol begins by explaining the continued chilly nights and the risks of ice.

She said: ‘Going to be another cold night, there’s going to be a risk of ice and once again, a widespread frost.

‘But Charlie and Naga, things for most away from the south east are going to turn a bit milder as we go through the weekend.’

Not long after handing it over to her colleagues on the couch, Naga quips: ‘You’re perfectly matched to the weather today, aren’t you? Like… frosty.’

Dig? On Thursday morning, hosts Naga and Charlie Stayt gave viewers the morning’s latest news, but not without a notable moment which became very awkward on-screen

Carol appears to scoff, laughing it off before saying: ‘Thank you Naga. That is more good luck than good planning I have to say.’

Naga adds: ‘It looks lovely, Carol, thank you.’

It comes after Carol shut down rumours of a feud with her co-star following a series of frosty on-air exchanges.

The weather presenter admitted viewers of the show often ask whether she gets on with the newsreader after picking up on tension.

Matching: Not long after handing it over to her colleagues on the couch, Naga quips: ‘You’re perfectly matched to the weather today, aren’t you? Like… frosty’

Insisting they are on friendly terms, she told The Sun: ‘I love Naga and we just have banter. I love the camaraderie between us and everyone. It’s a good, fun job.’

Last month, Naga told her co-star she looked ‘really stern’ as Carol got ready to present the forecast for Christmas.

Naga went on to ask Charlie Stayt, 60, if he thought Carol was had a somber expression as she quizzed if the nation can expect snow to fall on Christmas Day.

Naga said: ‘Carol’s taking a look at the weather, of course, for us this morning.

‘We just have banter!’ It comes after Carol shut down rumours of a feud with her BBC Breakfast co-star Naga Munchetty, following a series of frosty on-air exchanges

‘Carol… I think we’re never allowed to ask you about snow on Christmas Day. You always kind of have that really stern look whenever I ask.’

Naga then turned to Charlie and said: ‘Doesn’t she?’

Carol playfully hit back: ‘Naga, I prefer it when you ask me about the snow on Christmas Day on Boxing Day, to be honest, but hey ho.’

And in November, Naga hit out at Carol for ‘abusing’ her live on air by mistakenly calling her ‘Nana’.

Oh dear: The weather presenter admitted viewers of the show often ask whether she gets on with the newsreader (right) after picking up on tension

Her side: Insisting they are on friendly terms, she said: ‘I love Naga and we just have banter. I love the camaraderie between us and everyone. It’s a good, fun job’

The Scottish weathercaster was presenting her regular slot on the morning news programme before she handed it back to Naga and Charlie Stayt.

But with the nature of live TV, Carol slipped up and accidentally called her female colleague ‘Nana’ – who she says is a producer on the show – much to Naga’s apparent annoyance.

As she finished her forecast, Carol said: ‘The winds will be lighter, just a few showers coming in from the north-west and temperatures ranging from nine to 13 degrees, Nana.’

Eek! Last month, Naga told her co-star she looked ‘really stern’ as Carol got ready to present the forecast for Christmas

She immediately added: ‘Naga, sorry, we’ve got a producer called Nana.’

The broadcaster quickly snapped back: ‘You say that every single time, and I come and visit you, and you have a cup of tea. I bring you a cup of tea, and have a nice chat – and I’ve never met Nana,

Jibing around with her co-star, Naga said: ‘I think Nana is a phantom producer that you just make up so you can abuse me by mispronouncing my name.’

Carol quipped back: ‘The shame, Naga, the shame,’ with her face held in her hands.

She then went on to explain to viewers who she accidentally called Naga: ‘Nana is very much alive and kicking and very lovely with it,’ to which Naga replied, ‘I have met Nana. Nana is very nice.

‘You are very lucky to have such a nice producer especially when you behave so badly.’

Making an apparent dig, Carol told Naga: ‘You are awful, but I do like you.’
