Chrissy Teigen has cut drinking out of her life, and she did it with help from the book Quit Like a Woman by Holly Whitaker. The book is touted as a “radical new path to sobriety” in a “culture obsessed with alcohol.” A doctor and friend gifted Chrissy the book in November, and after she read it, she made the decision to stop drinking. As of the end of December, the model is four weeks sober.
“One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend,” Chrissy explained. “I was done with making an a** of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like s*** by 6, not being able to sleep. I have been sober ever since and even if you can’t see yourself doing it or just plain don’t want to, it’s still an incredible read.”
This is not the first time that Chrissy has cut out alcohol from her life. Back in 2017, she was on a break from drinking, as well. At the time, she told Cosmopolitan that her behavior at award shows is what inspired her to cut back. “I felt bad for kind of making an a** of myself to people I really respected,” she explained. “And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for [my husband] John [Legend], for anybody.”
Chrissy has had a rough 2020, and has been open about her struggles. Over the summer, she was shocked to find out that she had naturally conceived her third child, despite needing IVF to have her first two children, Luna and Miles. However, after weeks of excitement, Chrissy was put on bed rest due to complications in the pregnancy. In September, she was hospitalized and lost the baby, who she and John named Jack.
After the devastating miscarriage, Chrissy spent several weeks off of social media to grieve in private. She eventually returned and shared an essay about the loss and how difficult the aftermath was for her. However, she promised fans that she would “be okay,” and has been back to her usual social media activity in the weeks since.
Chrissy, John and their kids are currently in St. Barts for a holiday vacation. They celebrated John’s birthday in paradise earlier this week, and have been photographed hanging out on yachts, going on hikes, shopping and more during the getaway. Chrissy definitely seems happy and healthy while on the trip with her loved ones — and she hasn’t even needed alcohol to do it!
