Ellie Harrison has been a firm fixture on Countryfile since her show debut in 2009. The BBC presenter, who recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary on the programme, has opened up about an awkward moment she shared with her co-star Adam Henson.

In an unearthed interview, the 43-year-old addressed her time exploring the UK.

Ellie was joined by Adam for the TV show Secret Britain where the duo searched for the country’s hidden areas of natural beauty.

The BBC favourite dished an on “unpleasant” experience when the duo took part in various challenges on the programme.

The small-screen star visited Welsh caves and went gliding in Yorkshire.

“The squeeze in the Welsh cave was really unpleasant,” Ellie admitted.

“When we went gliding in Yorkshire, I had assumed it would be a wonderful ballet-like contraption floating silently through the air but it was a creaking, hulking machine at the mercy of the weather which I wasn’t keen on at all.”

She added to the BBC: “The pilot had suggested I look out for other aircraft getting too close so I thought I was Tom Cruise calling out ‘bogeys on our tail.”

Ellie also opened up about her relationship with Adam as she admitted the pair often take the “mickey out of one another”.

“We’re quite different. Adam is a country sportsman and I’m a tree-hugger, but we take the mickey out of each other about it,” the Countryfile presenter explained.

“Adam’s a showman. His dad was on TV, his uncle is an actor and his grandfather was an entertainer.”

She added: “Whereas I’m pretty shy and find all that very hard.”

The duo fronted Secret Britain back in 2015 – a spin-off show to favourite Countryfile.

Ellie grew up in the countryside of Gloucestershire where the TV star recalled her dad “breeding chickens” and making “real yogurt”.

She later worked on a farm in Zimbabwe when she was younger and went on wildlife trips to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Canada.

Ellie’s initial dream was to become a country singer but instead she took a job working as a secretary at Channel 5.

The presenter admitted that if she was not on television she would be heading up a wildlife sanctuary.

She currently resides in the Cotswolds with her partner Matt Goodman.

The couple share three children together – two daughters and a son – who she is keen to keep out of the spotlight.

Ellie made a rare comment about her fiance while speaking to Event magazine, saying: “He’s the most handsome man on Earth”.

Countryfile airs tonight on BBC One at 6.15pm.
