Ferne McCann says she’ll take baby Sunday on weekly prison visits for years
Ferne McCann has confirmed she will continue to take baby Sunday on weekly visits to see Arthur Collins behind bars – until her daughter is old enough to make her own mind up about her acid attacker father.
After previously vowing to limit Sunday’s relationship with Collins, Ferne agreed to accompany her on the prison trips after the dad ‘asserted his parental rights.’
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Ferne said "He has asserted his parental rights and I sought professional advice.
"I made a decision that [Sunday] will still be seeing him – and that’s the situation I’m in now," she added.
To continue the mother and daughter visits, Ferne and Sunday endure a 440 mile round trip from Essex to HMP Full Sutton, York, where Collins is currently serving 20 years for throwing acid at clubbers.
Ferne admitted the visits will continue until Sunday’s ‘old enough to make her own decision.’
Viewers will see the former TOWIE star making some difficult decisions about her young daughter’s relationship with her dad in the new series of her ITVBe show, First Time Mum.
Despite being criticised in the past about opening up about Collins, Ferne said she felt it was important to let people know that side of her.
"It’s important to speak about it because it’s a part of my life. But it doesn’t define me," said Ferne, adding "I have to move on."
The second season of Ferne’s ‘warts and all documentary’ sees her adjusting to life as a single mum in the wake of Collins’ sentencing.
But her decision to share intimate details of her personal life hasn’t gone down with well some of her friends.
Ferne’s former TOWIE co-star Sam Faires is no longer speaking to her she launched a ‘rival’ show to her Baby Diaries series.
"[Sam] fell out with me because I took the opportunity to do my own show," said Ferne, adding that in her opinion the two series were ‘completely different.’
Billie’s fiancé Greg Shepherd had waded into the girls’ feud last month when Ferne urged her Twitter followers to watch Charlotte Crosby’s new TV programme which was on at the same time as the Faires’ show.
Greg replied to the tweet, writing: "Wow!! #socalledbesties."
Speaking about the ‘beef’ to the Mirror, Ferne said: "Sometimes I don’t know what day it is let alone the TV schedule. Greg just speaks his mind and says things in banter.
"But I’ll always support Billie and Greg. Billie has been my best mate since we were 11," she added.
But things could get awkward at Billie and Paul’s upcoming Maldives wedding as Ferne will be in attendance while ‘rival’ Sam will take a starring role as chief bridesmaid.
Though Ferne is hoping things will be less sour between the feuding reality stars by then.
"I’ve received my save the date invite. And I’ll be there with bells on," she said.
"I think time will have passed by then. I hope that it won’t be awkward. Nothing is irreparable," she added hopefully.
Asked if she and Sam could ever be friends again Ferne said, "Let’s see."
But Ferne is still good pals with her former costars Danielle Armstrong and James ‘Arg’ Argent, with both of them appearing in her new show.
Ferne also commented that Arg, who is back together with on-off partner Gemma Collins, would make ‘amazing’ parents themselves when the time is right.
