Gwyneth Paltrow has said that having children ‘ruins’ relationships but added that she felt ‘profoundly lonely’ before having her daughter Apple. 

The actress, 50, who shares 18-year-old Apple and son Moses, 16, with ex-husband Chris Martin, admitted relationships are never the same after children.

Speaking to Katy Perry on her Goop podcast, she said: ‘It’s hard on a relationship. Like I’ve looked back now on like the data set of parents with young kids.

‘It just… ruins the relationship,’ Gwyneth laughed before adding: ‘It’s really hard!’

Pop star Katy, 38, who has two-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom, agreed but added it’s down to both people to pull their weight.

She explained: ‘I think if both people in the relationship are willing to do the work then it’s going to be so much easier.’

‘But if one person thinks they don’t have any work to do then it’s going to be really challenging,’ Katy confirmed.

However, Gwyneth went on to admit that before having her first child, daughter Apple, in 2004, she had felt ‘profoundly lonely’.

She revealed: ‘I never felt lonely again after I had her [Apple]… and I had felt profoundly lonely in my life.’

The actress split from Coldplay frontman Chris in 2014 following ten years of marriage. 

She went on to date Brad Falchuk, going public with their relationship back in April 2015, and eventually marrying in September 2018.  

She is now a step-mum to her husband’s teenagers, Isabella, 18, and Brody, 16, who he shares with his ex, Suzanne Bukinik. 

It comes after Gwyneth recently insisted she doesn’t want any ‘bad blood’ with any of her exes and revealed if she she’s still friendly with her famous exes.

When it comes to ‘conscious uncoupling,’ the Goop founder, has some A-list experience as her romantic history includes a trinity of major Hollywood romances.

The Oscar-winning mogul, opened up about her policy of turning breakups into friendships when she answered fan questions from her Instagram DMs.

‘I really believe in conscious uncoupling,’ the Shakespeare in Love star explained, referencing the term she popularised during her divorce from Chris. 

‘When you spend meaningful time with someone,’ she wrote, ‘it’s nice to have it morph into friendship. I don’t want to have bad blood with anyone, ever (if I can help it).’
