John Whaite confesses ‘life isn’t same’ with Strictly
Great British Bake Off star John Whaite recently revealed he “fell in love” with Strictly Come Dancing partner Johannes Radebe, although of course there is nothing to suggest that their relationship is anything other than a close friendship.
The pair competed on the BBC show back in 2021 and made it all the way to the final, coming in second place to Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
In newly-resurfaced pictures following John’s recent admission, the pair can be seen cuddling up together at a bus stop following the BAFTA Awards.
The platonic pair embraced as they waited for their lift home, sharing a sweet moment together.
John recently gushed about his incredibly strong connection to Johannes in an interview with The Times.

“When you’re physically pressed against another man for ten hours a day, things move emotionally,” he said.
“So I fell in love with him [Johannes]. I still love him, of course I do.
“I can’t speak for him – because I’m not allowed to, legally – but it felt like there was love there,” John added.
“We had such similar stories growing up – the homophobia, the bullying, coming out, coming to terms with our sexuality – as any queer kid would.”

Johannes has also previously claimed he “couldn’t live without” John, giving a similarly touching insight into their friendship.
John has also revealed he didn’t hide his feelings from his fiancé and partner of 15 years, Paul Atkins.
He explained how he discussed it with Paul “all the way through”, as he reflected: “Love can’t just be directed to one person. The heart can easily split into two or three or four. And those loves aren’t mutually exclusive.”
He also admitted that he and Paul “spent some time apart” following Strictly, with the latter moving back in with his parents while the baker “sat on the patio, drinking bottle after bottle of sauvignon blanc”.
While the pair reunited, John has admitted that he only speaks to Johannes occasionally for the sake of his fiancé.
“I love him to bits and I worship the ground he walks on, but I have to be mindful that there’s more than my own desires to consider here and if it would be tricky for Paul for me to be in contact with Johannes, then it’s a sacrifice that I have to make,” he explained.
