Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast host reacts to Dan Walker’s new role amid criticism

Louise Minchin, 52, has been presenting BBC Breakfast alongside Dan Walker, 43, for the past four and a half years. The corporation has since announced that Dan will be joining The NFL Show from this weekend.

The dad-of-three will replace Mark Chapman who has since stepped down from the presenting role.

Louise took to Twitter and reacted to the exciting news as the broadcaster shared the BBC’s official announcement.

In view of her 194,000 followers, she retweeted the official announcement which read: “From this Saturday, Dan Walker will present The NFL Show!

“Mark Chapman will be stepping away to concentrate on his other presenting commitments.

“Thanks for the last five years, Chappers, and welcome to #bbcnfl, Dan!”

Louise replied: “Congratulations @mrdanwalker,” followed by clapping hand emojis.

Dan reacted to his co-star’s well wishes, as he typed: “Thanks partner.”

The BBC Breakfast host will join Osi Umenyiora and Jason Bell on The NFL Show as former presenter Mark focuses on other commitments.

Following the big news, Dan has since thanked fans for their kind messages after some critics hit out at his new role.

One person commented: “Do you even like American Football Dan?”

The BBC host replied: “Do you really think I would have said ‘yes’ to the offer of this amazing job if that wasn’t the case?”

Another social media user replied to the announcement with vomit-faced emojis.

Dan replied: “I’ll try and reduce your vomits over the coming weeks.”

While a third person moaned: “I for one won’t be tuning in and I’ve already taken this off series link. What a ludicrous appointment by @BBCSport.”

The new NFL Show host hit back: “And I’m going to stop wearing yellow jackets to show my frustration. I hope you feel safe to come back sometime soon.”

Despite this, Dan received an outpouring of support as many people offered their congratulations.

One person penned: “Congratulations @mrdanwalker. Excellent appointment for a great show.

“@markchapman has done a hugely entertaining job over the last few years and we’re very much looking forward to seeing you working with our favourites @JasonBell33 and @OsiUmenyiora.”

A second posted: “Best of luck Dan, go easy on my jets.”

Another added: “Sad to see Mark go but excited to see Dan on this. A great presenter and host! Good luck Dan and thanks to Mark for his great work over the years with the show.”

Dan later replied to the sweet messages, saying: “Just wanted to say ‘thanks’ for all the lovely comments (& some of the other ones) about the #NFL Show news.

“I’ve worked hard to get every job I’ve ever had and I feel very privileged to get this amazing gig. I know it’s well loved & I promise to take good care of it.”
