Mel B and Stephen Belafonte slapped with huge tax lien
Mel B and ex Stephen Belafonte still aren’t out of one another’s hair following their acrimonious divorce: The couple reportedly owes more than $250,000 in back taxes.
Mel and Belafonte, both 42, were hit with a massive tax lien for their 2016 income, documents obtained by The Blast revealed. The former couple owes a total of $274,863.99 to the IRS.
It wasn’t specified in the documents which party would be responsible to pay the back taxes, or if the exes would have to split the cost.
Throughout their marriage, the Spice Girl was the primary breadwinner. During their divorce proceedings, Belafonte claimed he was destitute without her support. Perhaps that was due to his own spending habits: He requested $4,300 for groceries, $11,000 for housing, $2,000 for clothing, and $750 for his cellphone bill — per month.
Mel B filed for divorce from Belafonte in March 2017 after nearly a decade of marriage. She accused him of domestic violence and sexual exploitation, as well as cheating on her with their nanny.
The pair finalized their split in December, but remain embroiled in a bitter custody battle over shared daughter Madison and Mel’s daughter Angel, whose father is Mel’s ex, Eddie Murphy.
