Neighbours star Maxine Klibingaitis, 58, dies ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’
Australian actress Maxine Kilbingaitis has sadly passed away at the age of 58.
Maxine was best known for starring in TV series Prisoner as Bobbie Mitchell, and she also portrayed Terry Inglis in hit Australian soap Neighbours.
Her "sudden" and "unexpected" death was announced in a Facebook post by Prisoner fan club Partners in Crime on Monday 17 April.
The post read: "Maxine Klibingatis 1964 – 2023. We regrettably announce that actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away.
"Maxine played the much-loved character of Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner, Terri Inglis in Neighbours and many other roles in Australian TV."
They added: "Maxine was only 58. We send our sincere condolences to her son, Zane and Maxine’s family & friends.
RIP Maxine."
Fans of the actress paid tribute to her in the comments section, with one person writing: "Oh sorry to hear that! Love seeing her on Prisoner, many hours of enjoyment and entertainment. Thank you Maxine, RIP".
A second fan said: "RIP Maxine condolences to her family," while a third added: "Oh no. Such a beautiful soul who is now flying with the angels."
The fan page later clarified that they had been informed of Maxine's passing by one of her close friends.
They wrote: "Just to clarify for those inboxing me/us, the sad news is NOT a hoax. A very close friend of Maxine’s called me late today and asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine’s fans would know. Maxine had many fans. Regards, Maria."
"For those asking, it was very sudden and unexpected. That’s all we know for now," the page added in a separate comment.
Maxine starred in Neighbours in 1985, with her character Terry marrying the villainous Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis).
She starred in hit TV series Prisoner from 1983 until 1985, and also appeared in numerous other shows including Home and Away, Special Squad, The Flying Doctors and Family and Friends.
The actress also appeared in films such as Moonlight & Magic and the first two Boronia Boys films; Boronia Boys and Boronia Backpackers, as a character named Caz.
Maxine's final public appearance was at a Prisoner reunion in Melbourne in 2019.
She is survived by her son, Zack Friedman. She married Australian television director Andrew Friedman in 1987.
