Piers Morgan addresses if he had ‘pre-approved’ questions for Cristiano Ronaldo interview
Piers Morgan, 54, took to Twitter to reveal he was able to ask Cristiano Ronaldo, 34, “anything” during his ITV interview with the Juventus player. The Good Morning Britain host sat down with the legendary football player in a candid interview, which aired last night. However, one social media user claimed the questions Piers put to the sportsman must have been “pre-arranged and pre-approved” beforehand. They wrote: “Been flicking between watching Liverpool/Chelsea losing and #RonaldoMeetsPiers on ITV.
What? Don’t be ridiculous!
“The questions were no doubt pre-arranged and pre-approved but it’s still a good interview.
“In parts it’s like one of those proper sports documentaries ESPN used to make.”
After spotting the tweet, Piers was quick to clarify that Ronaldo didn’t ask to approve questions in advance.
He hit back in view of his 6.8 million followers: “What? Don’t be ridiculous! He neither asked for advance questions, nor got any.
“I would never do that… he said I could ask anything I wanted.”
Fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts about the interview.
One person wrote: “Snowflakes, ignore them Piers. Brilliant interview!”
Another added: “The interview proved how unexpected the questions were. Plus his Dad’s video. Brilliant.”
Unfortunately, some appeared to side with the viewer’s statement, with a third person commenting: “Every single one of Piers Morgan’s interviews are pre-arranged… it is blindingly obvious.”
“You would never do that? Trump interview? No advanced questions?” a fourth Twitter user claimed.
The former Manchester United striker showed a rare display of emotion during the interview while discussing his late father.
However, in spite of the upsetting nature of the conversation, Cristiano took the opportunity to thank Piers for their chat.
He shared a picture of the two of them posing together on his Instagram and Twitter pages along with the caption: “Probably one of the most revealing interviews I ever did…! Thanks @piersmorgan for the interview.”
The outspoken presenter seemed happy about Cristiano’s praise on his social media accounts and quoted his Instagram post.
The journalist excitedly wrote in response: “BOOM!”
At one point in the interview, Piers spoke about the footballer’s life in the public eye.
Cristiano insisted it’s “boring” being famous as he said he’s unable to go anywhere and hasn’t even been to the park with his children.
“After 10 years, you look at life in a different way, girlfriend, kids, you want some privacy,” he admitted.
Cristiano Ronaldo Meets Piers Morgan is now available on ITV Hub.
