TALK OF THE TOWN: Desperate Housewives can’t tempt sad Damian Lewis, despite his late wife Helen McCrory instructing him to have ‘lots of girlfriends’

His wife bravely told him to move on and have ‘lots of girlfriends’ before her tragic death in April – but I hear Damian Lewis is refusing to take instruction from the late Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory.

A friend of the 50-year-old Billions actor, who was in London last week filming a new season of the hit TV show, has revealed that Damian has been batting away women seeking to be his shoulder to cry on.

‘There’s been no shortage of female friends ‘dropping by’ to see him and the children,’ says my source, who paints a picture of Desperate Housewives-style scenes, with glammed-up women dropping off platters of food in a bid to get their foot in the door with the hunky widower.

‘But Damian is not keen on venturing out on to the dating scene again. He’s still mourning Helen.’

Helen, pictured below with Damian, who was 52 when she died, left a hilarious parting message for her family: ‘You must all love again, love isn’t possessive, but you know, Damian, try at least to get through the funeral without snogging someone.’

Comedian Johnny Vegas has bought himself a swanky new boat – just like the movie stars currently sunning themselves on yachts off the coast of Cannes.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to sail it. And it’s moored off Merseyside.

‘I’m not going to sail it anywhere,’ says the 50-year-old Benidorm star, who has it anchored near his St Helen’s home and will row back and forth to it.

‘I want to do some Hemingway-esque writing on it.’

Johnny fears his outrageous comedy character could make him a target for the woke warriors, so at least he’ll have somewhere to hide…

My lips are sealed, but…

Which lord, who grew up in a famous stately home which pops up in films, flies his dates in from all over the world on his private jet just for the night?

According to a pal of this single young aristocrat, he once whisked a lucky young lady over from New York and put her on an ‘exhaustive itinerary’ of activities before sending her back across the Atlantic a day later.

What a charmer!
