Yasmin Finney is spotted on the Doctor Who set for the first time

Doctor Who SPOILER: Transgender actress Yasmin Finney is spotted on set with David Tennant and Catherine Tate for the first time after joining the cast as companion Rose

Yasmin Finney has been spotted filming scenes for the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who, a mere day after her casting was announced.

It was the first time that the transgender actress, 18, has been spotted on set since it was revealed that she would be starring in the episode, as she was joined by David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Camden on Tuesday.

The actors were gathered beside the show’s iconic TARDIS as filming was underway, with Yasmin donning a light blue denim jacket.

The star will play character Rose in a nod to Billie Piper’s stint as the companion to both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston’s Doctors.

She was snapped gazing afar, while the sun hit her face and spiral curled brunette locks.

David once again donned his character’s signature ensemble, with the 10th Doctor known for his sharp suit and Converse combination along with his iconic trench coat.

It seemed that the new cast-member was fitting in well, as the crew enjoyed a laugh during filming.

Catherine looked casual for the work day, in a pink checked shirt and baseball cap, shielding her eyes with a pair of black sunglasses.

Speculation has been rife around how David’s Doctor and Catherine’s beloved companion Donna Noble will be reunited, after her memory was wiped of their adventures in devastating scenes 14 years ago.

The pair’s return to the series sparked elation among fans, with their arrival set to air as part of the show’s 60th Anniversary in 2023.

The anniversary scenes will also feature new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, whose casting was announced earlier this month.

Yasmin and Ncuti are seemingly already close, as the actress shared a snap of the new Time Lord wrapping his arms around her at London Fashion Week back in February.

Transgender actress Yasmin recently explained that the role in the show has ‘made her life’, saying: If anyone would have told eight year old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would never in a million years have believed them.

‘This  show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life.’

Amazing! Yasmin will play character Rose in a nod to Billie Piper’s stint as the companion to both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston’s Doctors for the 60th anniversary

A big moment: The Heartstopper actress’s involvement in the iconic show was only recently announced

It comes after Doctor Who’s returning showrunner Russell T Davies teased David and Catherine’s return on Sunday: ‘They’re back! And it looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening?

‘Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback.

‘The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.’

Tennant took over the starring role in 2005 from Christopher Eccleston and was succeeded by Matt Smith while Billie Piper’s companion role was the first in the programme’s 2005 revival and was followed by Tate as Donna.

Opinionated Donna helped to save civilisation from the Daleks during her spell with the 10th Doctor but she had her memories of her adventures in the Tardis wiped, because the powers the Time Lord had given her threatened to overwhelm her brain.

Time travel! Scottish actor Tennant first stepped into the Tardis in 2005 to play the 10th Time Lord with his final episode airing on New Year’s Day in 2010, with comedic actress Tate starring as companion Donna Noble (the pair pictured in 2008)

Tennant was also seen in the 50th anniversary special, The Day Of The Doctor, in 2013.

Tennant and Tate’s collaborations extend beyond Doctor Who. They worked on a stage version of Much Ado About Nothing together in 2011, with Tennant also cropping up on Tate’s sketch show The Catherine Tate Show.

A synopsis teasing their Doctor Who return mentioned Donna’s memory wipe to save her life, adding that the Doctor had “left her family with a warning: if ever she remembers, she will die”.

It adds: ‘But with the two coming face to face once more, the big question is, just what brings the Doctor and Donna back together?’
