Champions League top scorer race 2021/22: Who is in golden boot position and what is the record?

BRACE yourselves football lovers as the Champions League final is nearly upon us – and it is too close to predict the winner.

But barring a miracle, one thing wrapped up for certain is the race for the golden boot as it has Karim Benzema's size written all over it.

The Real Madrid superstar leads the way with 15 goals, whilst already eliminated Robert Lewandowski occupies second spot on 13.

Mo Salah is the only player left in the tournament that can theoretically catch Benzema, but the Liverpool talisman is miles behind on eight goals.

So the Real Madrid captain won't be worried about Salah, however, he will want to focus his attention on Cristiano Ronaldo's record instead.

Who are the 2021/22 Champions League top goal scorers?

Benzema's hattricks against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have fired him to the top of the charts but Robert Lewandowski wasn't too far behind before Bayern were eliminated.

When is the Champions League final?

Liverpool's massive clash with Real Madrid will take place on TOMORROW – Saturday, May 28.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm UK time – 9pm in Paris.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the initial location of Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg was stripped of hosting the final.

That enabled Paris Saint-Germain's stadium, Le Par des Princes to be the designated ground for the match and it can hold approximately 47,000 spectators.

This will also be the first time the Champions League final has been hosted in Paris since Barcelona defeated Arsenal in 2006.

Extra-time and penalties are available if the two teams cannot be separated after 120 minutes.
