Chris Eubank Jr – next opponent odds: Callum Smith & Gennady Golovkin amongst favourites after Conor Benn fight axed | The Sun

CALLUM SMITH is the favourite to be Chris Eubank Jr's next opponent in the ring.

Bookmakers Betfair reckon a bout between the pair is most likely for the 33-year-old after Jr's highly-anticipated bout with Conor Benn was dramatically axed following the latter's failed drugs test.

Promoter Eddie Hearn had hoped the clash would still go ahead before announcing on Thursday that it was to be SCRAPPED.

This all stemmed from the news earlier this week that Benn had failed a drugs test for the banned substance Clomifene.

The 26-year-old was advised of his failed test by VADA and had subsequently passed all following tests carried out by UK Anti-Doping Agency.

But the British Board of Boxing Control confirmed the fight hadn't been sanctioned and left fans devastated by cancelling the fight.

So where does that leave both fighters?

Bookmakers Betfair reckon Eubank Jr could opt for another all-British clash and face Liverpudlian Callum Smith next.

That is the 6/4 favourite, with Benn being the 3/1 second favourite to be Eubank Jr's next opponent.

Kell Brook is seemingly contemplating coming out of retirement and it was suggested he would get the winner of the fight due to take place on Saturday.

Could he skip that wait and face Eubank Jr next? That is 5/1 with Betfair.

That's just ahead of what would be a mega clash with Gennady Golovkin at 7/1, with fellow boxing legend Canelo Alvarez at 20/1.

Billy Joe Saunders is the outsider of those given a price and can be backed at 33/1.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Following late cancellation of his eagerly-awaited bout against Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr now finds himself without an opponent and Callum Smith is the 6/4 to fill the gap and be his next challenger.

“Kell Brook coming out of retirement for an all-British clash as Eubank’s next opponent is 5/1, while Eubank seeking a huge international fight against Golovkin is 7/1 and shot to win four titles against Canelo next is 20/1.”
