Darts star celebrates on just one leg after dramatic fall during walk-on dance

Dirk van Duijvenbode defied a walk-on tumble to his win his opening match at the Dutch Darts Championship – and then celebrated on one leg.

Van Duijvenbode is renowned for his high-energy walk-ons which see him rush to the stage to hardcore dance music and then firing up the crowd by gyrating and fist-pumping. Being on home territory in Leeuwarden, DVD was particularly fired up ahead of his match against Dylan Slevin. However, his walk-on ended in a rather embarrassing fashion as he fell backwards on the stage and appeared to injure his right leg.

Van Duijvenbode tried to style out the mishap and resumed dancing briefly, even though he was clearly in some discomfort. The match against Slevin then went all the way to a last-leg decider, which Van Duijvenbode, an aubergine farmer by trade, won thanks to a stunning 129 checkout.

The fact the 'Aubergenius' was injured didn’t stop the 30-year-old from celebrating wildly, even if he did it on one leg to protect his injured limb.

It’s not the first time Van Duijvenbode has done himself damage. Last year, he revealed he suffered a wrist injury during one of his exuberant, fist-pumping celebrations, which meant he had to stay off the practice board for a while.

“It happened fist-pumping and I went a bit too hard. [It] can happen,” he admitted at the time.
