Eels recruit Tony Williams ruled out for rest of NRL season

Parramatta wrecking ball Tony Williams' career is at the crossroads again after confirmation he will need to have a second knee reconstruction is as many years.

Williams, who had forced his way back into the Eels' top squad, ruptured his ACL in Parramatta's win over the Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.

Scans on Monday confirmed Williams would be out for the rest of the season.

It's a bitter blow for a man who was once one of the most destructive forwards in the game and jumped at a one-year cut price contract offer from Brad Arthur to rejoin the blue and golds in 2018. Williams, 29, suffered the same injury to his opposite knee while playing for Tonga in the mid-season Pacific Test last year.

He was at the Sharks at the time trying to reinvigorate his career and had just broken into Cronulla's NRL side before the setback.

But having played only six NRL games in the last two years, Williams now faces a long road back.
