England made the country proud for a month at Euro 2020 but yobs and morons wrecked that in just a few hours at Wembley
WHEN some friends of mine invited me to the Euro final, I gave it a lot of thought but eventually decided against it.
As tempting as it was to be at Wembley to see England going for a trophy, I just felt it would be too busy for me so I’d be better off watching at home.
And after giving them a call to see how they’d got on, I definitely made the right choice.
The couple who asked me to go are both doctors – both quiet, respectable people who just wanted to go to watch a football match.
Before kick-off a guy came and sat next to them, absolutely out of his head.
As soon as the national anthem was played, he called the Italians every name you could think of.
They told me that when England scored he went off his rocker, then when Italy equalised he was looking around for anyone to have a go at.
There were a couple of Italians behind – neither of them going crazy – but this guy decided he would give them a right-hander and attacked them.
He wasn’t thrown out, but you can’t blame the stewards for that.
They’re being paid peanuts so they’re not going to get in the middle of the nutters who are going berserk.
Why would you try to stop all those lunatics running in, or step in when a load of idiots who are all off their heads are charging at you?
There’s no doubt the match wasn’t policed properly, but in no way does that excuse how so many behaved – and that’s before I even get to the online abuse.
I just can’t understand why anyone would boo a national anthem in the first place, but neither can I work out why you’d want to get as drunk as a sack to watch a football match.
You go there to watch it, to enjoy it – but these morons won’t remember a thing.
Mind you, they spend half the game looking behind them for someone to fight.
They all chant and cheer about England this and that - but they should look at the films of the boys of 18 and 19, back in the day, getting on the carriers to go to fight for their country.
This lot are a disgrace, an embarrassment to all the decent folk out there, and they’ve got to be educated – but how you go about that, I don’t know.
I’d hoped it wouldn’t affect our chances of staging the World Cup in 2030 but when people see all that aggro, it certainly doesn’t help.
And the social media abuse is just a disgrace.

You’re dealing with morons who, most of the time, never even go to a game.
It’s hard for me to find words I could use to describe them.
It’s such a terrible pity because for a month, Gareth Southgate and all his boys did the nation proud – and it took just a few hours for those idiots to bring shame on us.
