Pep Guardiola vows to make the ‘right decision’ for Joe Hart if West Ham choose not to keep Manchester City keeper

The goalkeeper’s future is uncertain as he nears the end of a season-long loan with the Hammers.

Hart, 31, has a year left on his City deal but little chance of forcing his way back into the team there.

Guardiola sent him out on loan to Italians Torino just months after arriving at the Etihad in 2016.

And after his side thrashed West Ham 4-1 on Sunday the City boss said: “That was the toughest decision I’ve made since I was a manager.

“He was an incredible professional when we were together and there are no doubts about his quality.

“But I am here to make decisions, sometimes good, sometimes not. We will find out in the future.

“He’s our player and, if he does not continue here next season, we will talk.

“We are going to speak with the club and take the right decision for him.”

Hart watched from the stands at the London Stadium as Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho were on target for City, while Pablo Zabaleta scored an own goal against his old club.

And Zabaleta claims uncertainty over the goalkeeping position has affected the Hammers, who sit just three points above the drop zone.

Hart and Spanish stopper Adrian have been in and out of David Moyes’ struggling side.

Zabaleta said: “That situation has not been easy for both goalkeepers.

“Sometimes as a keeper you need the confidence of keeping your place in the starting XI.”
