The Top 5 craziest moments in WWE Extreme Rules history
WWE fans have looked forward to Extreme Rules, where anything goes in the craziest stipulations thinkable, every year since 2009.
It’s the one night on the WWE calendar where traditional rules are thrown in the bin, during matches including everything from Last Man Standing to No Disqualification contests.
And the unpredictable pay-per-view always see wrestlers try some of their most insane moves in order to make a name for themselves.
It will surely be no different when Extreme Rules 2018 takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this Sunday night.
Here Mirror Sport’s Scott Felstead takes a look at five of the most exciting moments in the history of the event.
4. Roman Reigns spears Big Show through an announce table
In 2015, Roman Reigns battled Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match, and no table was left unscathed!
Not content with sending the Big Show sailing through a wooden table inside the ring, Reigns would find an ingenious way to put his larger foe out of commission for good.
Whilst we have seen many Superstars put through the commentators table over the years, never have we seen it done to someone as large as Big Show.
Roman Reigns won the match by spearing the behemoth through the table and then sandwiching him with another table, preventing the man-mountain from returning to his feet by the count of ten.
Big Show lost the match, but he earned our respect as one of the best ‘Big Men’ in wrestling history.
3. Daniel Bryan gives Kane some heat
Choosing just one extreme moment from the No-Holds-Barred match between Daniel Bryan (WWE Champion) and Kane, which went down in 2014, is no easy task.
The frenemies battled all over the arena, destroying a car – and in a most surreal move, the “YES” man even delivered a risky flying head-butt from the top of a forkift truck.
It’s not hard to see why Bryan has suffered with health issues in recent times but in this contest, ‘The Big Red Machine’ would take the biggest risk.
Kane was propelled backwards onto a flaming ringside table. The ‘Devils Favourite Demon’ was able to get up, but the damage had been done and it wasn’t long before Bryan scored the pin.
This was another great example of how even WWE’s larger athletes put their bodies on the line for the entertainment of pro-wrestling fans.
2. Seth Rollins hits flying cross-body from arena balcony
In a changing-of-the guard moment in 2014, The Shield took it to three of WWE’s most established stars in Evolution (comprising of Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton).
The match was significant for The Shield (Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins) because they picked up the win, but also because all three men sealed themselves as the future main-event stars that they later became.
In a move that could have gone wrong in so many ways, Seth Rollins leaped from an arena balcony, delivering a picture-perfect flying cross-body to Randy Orton and Triple H.
The 15-foot leap could have ended very badly since there was only a concrete floor below. It was a night that would officially start the love affair between Rollins and the WWE Universe.
1. John Cena delivers ‘Attitude-Adjustment’ to Batista from the steel steps
When Batista challenged the reigning WWE Champion via Last Man Standing Rules in 2010, few could have expected the carnage that would ensue.
Whilst Super-Cena would eventually outsmart Batista by gaffer-taping his legs to the ring post thus preventing him from getting up by the count of ten, it was a jaw-dropping moment earlier in the match that WWE fans still remember to this day.
As Batista set up Cena for his patented powerbomb, from the top of the ring steps no less, Cena would reverse the move, and apply perhaps his most devastating ‘Attitude Adjustment’ in WWE history.
The height that Batista reached before plummeting through the announcers table was scary.
There’s no doubt that Extreme Rules has seen some pretty insane moments over the years, but it’s hard to think of a stunt that looked as dangerous as this one.
Even more incredibly, Batista got back to his feet and gave Cena a run for his money before losing to the gaffer-tape. Well, they do say anything can happen in WWE!
Extreme Rules 2018 will be broadcast live via the WWE Network on Sunday, July 15.
