Watch Pep Guardiola's stunned reaction to Karim Benzema's incredible Panenka penalty in Man City win over Real Madrid

PEP GUARDIOLA had the same stunned reaction as all of us watching from home as Karim Benzema chipped his cheeky penalty down the middle.

The Real Madrid striker showed incredible confidence and technique to sit Ederson down and clip the ball into the back of the net.

His Panenka-style penalty just squeezed under the bar and made it 4-3 to Manchester City on the night, with Los Blancos very much still in this Champions League semi-final tie.

But it was a high-risk-high-reward strategy from Benzema to go with the chip – especially after being targeted by a laser before taking the kick.

And Guardiola simply could not believe it.

Fan video footage from the Etihad stands shows Pep in the technical area watching the penalty being taken.

After the ball hit the net, the City boss turns and squats down on his haunches, bouncing up and down wtith his head in his hands before walking round in utter bewilderment.

To top it off, Benzema missed two penalties against Osasuna last week yet still attempted the audacious technique.

The Frenchman said: "I always have it in my head that if you don't take a penalty, you will never miss a penalty.

"That's mental confidence and that's all. I have a lot of confidence in myself… so I do it and it turns out well."

His boss Carlo Ancelotti added: "I think he changed because the last two penalties were not good.

"He changed and tried it in training. I did not know how he would shoot.

"He choose this and it goes really well. He has a strong personality and character.

"It is not easy in the semi-final of the Champions League to do a penalty like this."

The goal was Benzema's second of the night and his NINTH in his last four European matches.

And it kept the blockuster tie alive ahead of the return leg at the Bernabeu next Wednesday.

But Phil Foden was left disappointed – because he feels it should be game over already.

The scorer of City's third said: "For the fans watching it was obviously a great game of football.

"We are playing a side that have won the Champions League many times and if we give the ball away they are going to punish us.
