Elon Musk hits back at people criticising billionaires for going to space

It may not have escaped your notice that a lot of rich, white guys are very interested in going to space right now.

Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos have all founded their own private space companies.

SpaceX, Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are all successfully delivering satellites and people into orbit. And their founders hope they can reap big benefits from the new privatised space race.

But it’s not without its critics. Musk has hit back at those who say their vast amounts of wealth should be spent elsewhere with a tweet.

In poem form, Musk tweeted that space represents hope for many people.

People didn’t wait long before wading in to mock him further.

The video was put out by The Fridays for Future (FFF), a climate campaign started by Thunberg.

A spokesperson for the group said: ‘We wanted to highlight pure nonsense.’

And, just so you don’t forget, Jeff Bezos is planning to launch himself to space aboard a Blue Origin flight next week.
