Apple fans have already had to wait a little longer to see the iPhone 12 with the US firm unveiling their latest and greatest device in October this year rather than the usual September date. Now it seems those who fancy taking delivery of the iPhone 12 Pro are in for an even longer wait to get one in their pockets.
Apple opened pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro on Friday and it appears they are proving to be an instant hit.
Those wanting an iPhone 12 Pro can order today but, due to the demand, delivery times are already slipping with most variants of this device not shipping until November 11 – that’s almost a month away.
There’s also limited or no availability to pick up in store. Luckily, things are slightly better for those wanting the standard iPhone 12 with these devices available for delivery from Oct 30 and in store from Saturday, October 24.
It’s unclear what availability will be like in other retailers on launch day but all of the stores such as Currys, Argos and John Lewis will be selling the new iPhones from October 23.
So, what will you get for your money?
Apple is bringing some big upgrades to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 and, on paper, they certainly appear like very exciting devices.
Both include a new Super Retina XDR OLED screen which is now four times stronger than before, there’s also a powerful A14 Bionic processor and you can access fast 5G data speeds which will whizz the web to these iPhones at over 300Mbps.
Improved cameras, new colours and a more angular design are also included along with a new way to charge the batteries via Magsafe.
Apple says that MagSafe improves wireless charging for a better, more efficient experience and it’s not just about boosting the battery. The US tech firm is launching a swathe of other accessories such as case and cardholders that all snap to the rear of the phone using the magnets.
Not only that, but third-party options, like the hugely-popular Pop Socket, has already confirmed plans to support Magsafe with its next-generation of iPhone accessories.
One final change to beware of is that Apple is no longer including a plug or headphones in the box of the iPhone 12 range.
This is aimed at cutting down on electronic waste but it does mean you will need to add these accessories to your shopping basket if you think you’ll need them.
“The arrival of 5G marks the beginning of a new era for iPhone and we’re thrilled to bring these impressive new capabilities to our customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We’re once again pushing the boundaries to deliver incredible computational photography advancements, Super Retina XDR displays, and the biggest leap in durability in iPhone history with the new Ceramic Shield front cover. Available in two great sizes, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini take design to a new level in a new form factor that’s as beautiful as it is durable, and makes it easier than ever for customers to find the perfect iPhone to fit their lifestyle.”
