BBC Weather meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker has warned of a ‘chilly weekend’ for many Britons as stubborn wintery showers continue to pummel the UK into Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile cold Arctic air is set to move in from the North bringing with it more widespread frost. The weather presenter predicted that temperatures in some areas could plummet to well below freezing with lows of -6C in Scotland.
Mr Schafernaker told BBC Breakfast: “So a chilly weekend and also some wintery showers on the way, particularly across northern areas.
“Now notice there are a lot of clouds to the south of the UK, a weather front is currently straddling the English Channel so more clouds here from parts of East Anglia into central and southern England.
“Outbreaks of rain certainly clipping Kent and Sussex, but I think the rest of the country it is a mixture of sunny spells and occasional showers.
“Some of them wintery across Scotland and also the Pennines.”

He continued: “And it is chilly here six degrees, it is a little milder in the south where we have that weather front.
“But you can see the weather front is pulling away into the near continent during the course of the night, the skies are clearing and the winds are dropping out.
“And we are in for another widespread frost.
“Again in the Glens and the Lochs the temperatures probably down to -6C but in cities in the south around three degrees or so.”
UK Weather: Met Office forecast drop in temperatures
Sunday is due to see “plenty of sunshine” according to the weather presenter.
But he added: “The winds are coming in from the north a cold direction.
“It is going to be a chilly day.
“And wintery showers over the hills in Scotland and the Pennines.
