Evil Karen Matthews who kidnapped daughter ‘displays sick ornament by bedside’

Evil Karen Matthews – who was jailed for kidnapping her young daughter Shannon – keeps a ‘Best Mum’ ornament on her bedside table, it is reported.

In 2008, the mother-of-seven was put behind bars for the kidnap of her then nine-year-old girl.

She denied having anything to do with her daughter’s disappearance and is often dubbed the most hated mother in Britain.

After her prison release, Matthews , living in a state-funded home under a new identity, claims an official assigned to help her rehabilitation process bought her the ‘Best Mum’ ornament, according to reports.

A photograph obtained by The Sun shows the frame propped up next to a lamp and a small tealight candle.

A source who claims to know Matthews’ new routine, said: “She gets everything paid for and her life is sweet now.

“She lives in a garden flat in a nice town.

“It’s like she has no shame and has blocked out what she actually did.”

Shannon was missing for more than three weeks before she was found stashed in the base of a divan bed at the home belonging to her mum’s boyfriend’s uncle.

Matthews and her accomplice Michael Donovan both claimed they were innocent of kidnapping Shannon to try and get their hands on reward cash.

But Matthews was jailed for eight years in 2008 after being found guilty of kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice.

She served half that sentence before being released.

The ex-con then moved hundreds of miles away from her home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

As Matthews was desperately trying to move on from her failed scheme, BBC’s widely acclaimed two-part series The Moorside was released last year.

It focuses on the community’s response to Shannon’s disappearance, and how neighbours Julie Bushby – played by Sheridan Smith – and Natalie Brown – played by Sian Brooke – reacted.
