Gang ‘filmed themselves chopping up woman’ as JCB digs up her dismembered body
A brutal gang who filmed themselves dismembering a woman's body before stuffing it into a suitcase were caught after a JCB dug up her remains.
Gabriela Lima Santana, 21, was reported missing on March 13, the day before her birthday, and was found dead on March 24 in a retaliation attack suspected to have been ordered by a rival gang.
Her body was discovered in a drainage ditch by city council workers operating a mechanical digger to remove rubbish from the gully in Capao da Canoa, southern Brazil.
According to police, one of Gabriela’s arms flung out at the JCB and landed in water as the the machinery attempted to pick up trash.
Gabriela's torso, head, legs and arms were later recovered from a suitcase, news site Caboco reported.
Police said two kitchen knives and a saw were also found inside the luggage and are believed to have been used to cut the 21-year-old up.
She was identified by her distinctive tattoos, one of which is allegedly associated with a local gang.
The discovery was later linked to a horrifying video police had received on March 1, showing a woman’s body being dismembered in a bathroom.

The disturbing footage allegedly shows an assassin mutilating a woman as bin bags allegedly containing Gabriela’s body parts are strewn across the floor.
Police say that although Gabriela was reported missing on March 13 it is possible she went missing before this date as she lived alone.
It is not known how the police force became in possession of the bloody video.

The investigation into Gabriela's death led detectives to an apartment in the neighbourhood of Rio Branco, where one suspect was arrested.
It is understood police believe the alleged killing may have happened on the property to as it had ties to local criminal gang activity.
A 49-year-old man, allegedly identified from the footage, and a 23-year-old, who allegedly recorded the clip, have been arrested.
