Shooter ‘threatening to kill child hostages’ after three police officers shot

Three police officers have been shot after responding to a reported hostage situation at a home.

It has been suggested that the shooter has threatened to kill children if police attempt to enter the property.

Austin police officer Bino Cadenas said: "I’m being advised it’s a hostage situation, shooter claiming to kill children if police enter."

The incident is unfolding in Cedar Park, a suburb of the city of Austin, in Texas, USA.

In a statement, Cedar Park Police Department said: "We are on scene of a shooting where multiple Cedar Park Police Officers have been shot while responding to a call at a home off Natalie Cove.

"Subject is barricaded inside the home and multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene."

Police have confirmed that three police officers were shot, and have been taken to a local hospital where they are in a stable condition.

The subject remains at large and officers are describing the scene as "very active".
