A socialite accused of murdering Brit Mayra Zulfiqar has confessed to killing the law graduate, police have revealed.

Zahir Jadoon allegedly admitted flying into a violent rage after the 25-year-old rejected his marriage proposal.

She had been shot in the neck and shoulder and strangled.

Her blood-soaked body was discovered in an apartment she was renting in Lahore on May 3.

Whether the alleged confession will stand up in court remains unclear. Under Pakistani law, they are only legally binding if a magistrate or member of the judiciary is present.

Police in Lahore announced Jadoon's confession on Monday following a desperate plea to Zulfiqar's dad to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a statement, Jadoon accused Zulfiqar of blackmailing him, according Pakistan's 24NewsHD TV.

"Mayra blackmailed me with video and I killed her after I (got) fed up with the blackmailing by her," he wrote.
