Three people have been rushed to hospital following a house explosion that forced neighbours to flee.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have said they were called to a property in Illingworth, West Yorkshire, on Saturday December 5.

Firefighters tackled the blaze as emergency services treated three injured people on scene before being taken to hospital.

A house explosion is understood to have sparked the fire, forcing six people in the neighbouring area out of their homes, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Illingworth residents reported feeling the explosion on Twitter, with one claiming he thought "something had hit the house."

He said: "Felt the explosion! Thought something had hit the house and only noticed the flames on the way back upstairs from checking everything. Fire looks to be out now."

A second said: "A house is on fire, we heard a bang before and wondering if it's a gas explosion. All services are there.

The Fire and Rescue Service are still on scene and are currently "dousing pockets of fire" which appeared some time after the explosion.

A spokesman also said all people involved have been accounted for and there were no fatalities.

It warned residents to expect firefighters to be at the "scene for some time" as a "safety precaution."

On Twitter, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ""Crews are currently dealing with an incident at Green Lane, Illingworth.

"They're working with @WestYorksPolice @YorksAmbulance @Calderdale and utility companies to deal with an explosion at a house.

"Three people have been treated and transported to hospital.

"All other persons accounted for.

"The incident was initially attended by crews from Fairweather Green, Halifax and Odsal with specialist units from Cleckheaton and Dewsbury.

"Crews are dealing with any remaining pockets of fire which are being extinguished should they appear."

"Firefighters are likely to be on the scene for some time.

"The incident affected one building and six surrounding houses have been evacuated as a safety precaution.

"Investigations are continuing into the cause of the explosion."
