Woman finds 100-year-old message in bottle – reunites it with author’s daughter

A family boat adventure company became world-famous overnight after its owner found a fascinating message in a bottle dated to 1926.

Captain Jennifer Dowker was cleaning the windows of a small ship when she spotted a worn old bottle at the base of the lake and dived down to find out more.

She was stunned to find a handwritten message reading: “Will the person who finds this bottle give this paper to George Morrow, Cheboygan Michigan."

Dowker shared her amazing finding on the Facebook page of her business Nautical North Family Adventures, where it gained tens of thousands of shares and also went viral on Reddit.

George Morrow's name and address was traced to a nearby family.

His daughter, Michele Primeau, is still alive.

She told Jennifer in a Zoom call that it was exactly within her dad's character to do something like that.

Michele said: “It was a total shock, but knowing my dad, he would always do little things… like when we were building our basement he was putting up the paneling and he put a note behind that.

“I know the date on the bottle was November 26, and his birthday was in November. It wouldn’t surprise me if he just did that on his birthday.”

Michele was tracked thanks to the amazing social media response the note received.

In a follow-up post Jennifer thanked everyone for sharing the messaging and reuniting Michele with her father's artifact.

Dowker wrote: "What a surreal experience it was to connect over zoom today. We can’t wait to welcome Michele aboard this September.

"Michele told us she would love if we displayed her Father’s note and bottle for all our passengers to see.

"So this is exactly what we plan to do… The name “George Morrow” will live on in the shop of the Yankee Sunshine."

Morrow's daughter added she'd rather Jennifer kept the note for all to see.

She told 9&10 News: “I was really hoping to get it back and I was going to frame it and everything.

“Then when I went to bed last night I started thinking about it, and it will make my dad live on if I give it to Jen.”
