Piazza Navona, one of Europe’s most iconic squares located in the heart of Rome, has long been touted as a must-see destination for travellers.

However, recent TripAdvisor reviews suggest that visitors are increasingly finding themselves underwhelmed by what is supposed to be a highlight of their Roman experience.

One TripAdvisor user expressed their disappointment, saying: “Bit disappointed, nice fountains at either end and a good church frontage but just a bit dull, might have been because it was raining but there is a McDonald’s just off it so…”

The sentiment was echoed by another reviewer who felt that there wasn’t much to see or do, mentioning overpriced restaurants with indifferent staff and uninspiring fountains.

“I walked through here many times during the 10 days we were in Rome and just was underwhelmed. Much preferred the vibe at Trevi,” they wrote.

Slightly overhyped apart from the centrepiece fountain and obelisk.”

Don’t miss… Piazza Navona, renowned for its Baroque architecture, stunning fountains, and vibrant atmosphere, has historically been a favourite among tourists.

The central feature of the square is the Fountain of the Four Rivers, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and the Egyptian obelisk adorned with the Pamphili family emblem.

Surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and art galleries, the square has been a hub for both locals and tourists alike.
