emerged, but there were signs pointing towards their split.

The couple were believed to be last seen together while attending the 2018 Oscars ceremony, and have not made joint public appearances since.

Here, MailOnline takes a look at all the tell-tale signs that Meryl and Don had gone their separate ways.

Split: Meryl Streep and Don Gummer (pictured in February 2015) have revealed that they’ve been separated for ‘more than six years’ after 45 years of marriage

Separation: The couple (pictured in December 2014), who tied the knot in 1978 and share four children, said they have ‘chosen to have lives apart’

The couple did not shy away from making cosy red carpet appearances together during their 45-year marriage.

The Devil Wears Prada actress, 74, and the sculptor, 76, were often seen sharing hugs and posing with their arms around each other at star-studded events.

In 2012, Don was seen showing his support for Meryl as he gave her a kiss when she won Best Actress at the Oscars for The Iron Lady.

However, in recent years, the couple have not been spotted walking the red carpets together, with Meryl often making solo appearances.

Meryl and Don were believed to be last seen together while attending the 2018 Oscars ceremony.

On the night, Meryl looked incredible in a red gown and she was seen posing on the red carpet with her arm wrapped around Don, who looked suave in a black suit.

But now, Meryl often appears solo or with her co-stars on red carpets and premieres while promoting her new movies, including Don’t Look Up and The Prom.

On Friday, she attended the Princesa de Asturias Awards, where the received one of the highest art honours in the country.

She spoke to Queen Letizia, King Felipe VI and their two daughters as she was commemorated for 46 years of work in film.

However, Don was absent from the ceremony as Meryl posed for photographs solo, or alongside Spanish royalty.

Loved-up: The Jacobson, 30 – in their Connecticut home.

As well as their main residence, the couple also owned a loft in the Tribeca neighbourhood in New York City.

However, the couple sold the lavish four-bedroom property in 2020 for $15.8million, according to Page Six.

The penthouse was first listed in August 2018 for a whopping $24.6million but the price was lowered to $18.25million the following year, before its 2020 sale.

Meryl purchased the 3,944-square-foot abode, located in the River Lofts building in TriBeCa, for $10.13 million back in 2006.

Elsewhere, in July 2020, Meryl notably purchased a home in Pasadena, California, for $4million.

But it was not the first property she bought in Pasadena as Meryl and Don also bought a $3.6million home in late 2017.

Family: Meryl and Don lived and raised their four children (pictured in June 2004) – Henry, 43, Mamie, 40, Grace, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30 – in their thanked Don in acceptance speeches when taking home prestigious accolades.

However, Meryl notably hasn’t spoken about Don as much in recent years, compared to previously gushing over their marriage in a string of interviews.

In 2012, she paid tribute to Don in her acceptance speech at the Oscars while picking up the Best Actress gong for The Iron Lady.

She said: ‘First I’m going to thank Don, because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me.’

The Death Becomes Her star also gushed over her ‘great’ husband when speaking about their marriage in a 2011 interview with The Talks.

When asked how she balances her marriage and her career, she said: ‘Well, the first thing is a great husband. That I found many years ago and I am lucky in that way.’

Meryl also spoke about the secret to a long-lasting marriage in an interview with Vogue in 2002 as she said: ‘Goodwill and willingness to bend — and to shut up every once in a while.’

She went on: ‘There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life.’

Sweet: While Meryl and Don (pictured in March 2014) kept their relationship relatively private, the Hollywood actress had spoken about her marriage in interviews over the years

Tribute: In 2012, Meryl paid tribute to Don in her acceptance speech at the Oscars while picking up the Best Actress gong for The Iron Lady

NO PUBLIC APPEARANCES
