{"id":215738,"date":"2023-10-24T08:44:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T08:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bestwnews.com\/?p=215738"},"modified":"2023-10-24T08:44:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T08:44:59","slug":"nightmare-neighbour-is-slapped-with-a-fine-for-disability-hate-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bestwnews.com\/world-news\/nightmare-neighbour-is-slapped-with-a-fine-for-disability-hate-crimes\/","title":{"rendered":"Nightmare neighbour is slapped with a fine for disability hate crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Nightmare neighbour, 67, is slapped with a fine for disability hate crimes and restraining order after late night drunk parking row with woman living next door<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anthony Doughty was returning drunk from the pub when he made the sick quip\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A nightmare neighbour has been slapped with a \u00a3773 legal bill for &#8216;disability hate crimes&#8217; after joking\u00a0&#8216;poor old cripple, God bless her&#8217; as he passed the house next door on his way home drunk from the pub.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Doughty, 67, made the sick quip as he was passing Clare Green&#8217;s terraced property after she had installed a disabled parking bay outside her home.<\/p>\n<p>The remark was overheard by Miss Green who went to police saying it was part of a hate campaign waged by Doughty on their street near Birkenhead on The Wirral.<\/p>\n<p>Miss Green, whose disability was not disclosed, also recorded her neighbour calling her a host of other insulting names including a &#8216;horrible f***ing woman,&#8217; a &#8216;horrible old bag&#8217; and a &#8216;dirty fat c***.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>In a statement she said: &#8216;He clearly knows what he is doing and he doesn&#8217;t seem phased and it has turned into a routine for him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I was really offended by the term &#8216;cripple&#8217; and also referring to me as a &#8216;horrible old bag&#8217; and a &#8216;dirty fat c***&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was clearly aimed at me and is causing me great distress. No doubt the neighbours heard it as well and it was very embarrassing for me. I do not know why he is targeting me. I just want it to stop.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/24\/08\/76925597-12665113-image-a-1_1698133973641.jpg\" height=\"1091\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Anthony Doughty\u00a0has been slapped with a \u00a3773 legal bill for &#8216;disability hate crimes&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/24\/09\/76926077-12665113-image-a-24_1698134713614.jpg\" height=\"524\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Doughty made a sick quip as he was passing Clare Green&#8217;s terraced property after she had installed a disabled parking bay outside her home<\/p>\n<p>At Wirral magistrates court Doughty, who works part time at a factory to supplement his pension, was ordered to pay Miss Green \u00a3200 in compensation after he admitted harassment and threatening behaviour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also had \u00a350 added to a \u00a3288 fine imposed due to the &#8216;disability hate&#8217; element of his behaviour and he was also ordered to pay \u00a3235 in costs and victim surcharge.<\/p>\n<p>He was further banned from contacting the victim for 12 months under the terms of a restraining order.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Doughty gave a thumbs up as he left the court with wife Susan after the case.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard the feud arose out of parking on the street and the loud barking of two dogs which Ms Green had been minding for a friend.<\/p>\n<p>Angela Blackmore, prosecuting, said: &#8216;There have been issues in the past few years and more recently the behaviour has escalated. It seems to have stemmed from issues when Ms Green minded a couple of dogs. They were barking quite loudly and it does feel like the defendant has held a grudge against her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There were a couple of incidents in the summer of 2022 that were reported to police but things seemed to have calmed down.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>She added: &#8216;The latest incidents occurred in June 2023, at a time when Ms Green had the window open due to the pleasant weather and as a result she could hear a lot more of what was happening outside.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;On June 5, she was at home and heard Mr Doughty returning home about 10pm. She said his usual routine was to go to the pub and return drunk. She heard him saying, &#8216;Horrible f***ing woman, what a horrible f***ing woman&#8217; and said it was aimed at her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;On June 6, he said the same sort of things at her then again on June 8, she heard him returning home. She tried to record him and put her phone in the window but she did not lean out as she didn&#8217;t want him to know she was recording.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He opened his front gate, and shouted, &#8216;Isn&#8217;t she horrible.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/24\/08\/76925595-12665113-image-m-3_1698133991730.jpg\" height=\"794\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Doughty pictured leaving Wirral Magistrates Court with his wife Susan<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;On June 9, there was another incident of a similar nature in which he said, &#8216;You are f***ing horrible you, you horrible old bag.&#8217; She provided police with the audio footage but on June 13, there was another incident, shouting about her being a &#8216;horrible horrible woman&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She said that while looking at her downstairs bay window, he spotted a small baby monitor in her window. He puts his two fingers up. He spat at full force towards her pathway. Again, he was shouting about her being a horrible woman. She said she had recently had a disabled parking bay put outside her house. She heard him say, &#8216;Poor old cripple, God bless her.&#8217; She said it was clearly aimed towards her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;On June 15, he said the same sort of things, this time he just put his two fingers up to the camera in the window. On June 21, he shouts, &#8216;Horrible fat c***&#8217; and on June 22, he says, &#8216;Dirty big fat c***&#8217; which she felt was &#8216;very offensive and derogatory&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There were further incidents on June 28 and June 30, including where he again called her a &#8216;f***ing horrible woman&#8217;. The complainant says she is anxious and stressed by his behaviour &#8211; in particular between the hours of 9 and 10pm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Police spoke to the defendant and he agreed that he did use the language detailed. He said it was borne out of frustration out of what he says were parking issues and issues that occurred in the past. He said he would not be doing it again.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Doughty had no previous convictions. His solicitor Nick Woosey. He said: &#8216;It is a neighbour dispute which has reached the point where the final straw has broken the camel&#8217;s back for both parties. It started with parking in the street.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;From his point of view, whilst he accepts what he has done, and he is sorry it has happened. He is a gentleman supported by his wife and he has lived there for 47 years and these proceedings have been anxiety inducing for them both. He is someone I would not expect to see before the courts normally.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing Doughty JP Geoffrey Green told him: &#8216;I am quite sure you do not need me to tell you that this was a nasty incident, borne out of frustration that has culminated over months, years now. These things are not easy to deal with and not always easy to understand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There will be an uplift on the fine because of the derogatory comments about the lady&#8217;s disability and we are then ordering compensation to be paid Ms Green for the insults that she has suffered over a period of time.
