<\/p>\nA MOROCCAN man has been arrested over the rape of a British holidaymaker on Spain\u2019s Costa Blanca.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old was held after a lengthy investigation which began with nothing but a photo of the suspect\u2019s pal.<\/p>\n
\n<\/p>\n
The "young" British tourist, whose age has not been revealed, was sexually attacked in August last year during a night out in Pilar de la Horadada, just south of Torrevieja.<\/p>\n
She reported the crime to detectives at the time before flying back to the UK with her family.<\/p>\n
But cops said she could not offer any information on the alleged attacker.<\/p>\n
The arrest in Pilar de la Horadada took place after cops tracked the suspect\u2019s friend down to the northern Spanish town of Logrono -nearly 500 miles away.<\/p>\n
It followed what the Civil Guard has described as \u201cmore than a year of exhaustive analysis of evidence\u201d in an operation involving other police forces.<\/p>\n A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Alicante said: \u201cThe Civil Guard, with the cooperation of local police in Pilar de la Horadada and Logrono, have arrested a man as the suspected author of the rape of a young foreign tourist.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cThe victim was with a female friend when she met the alleged aggressor and a male friend of his.<\/p>\n \u201cThe rape occurred when the victim and alleged aggressor were alone at one point.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cInitially investigators only had the photo of the suspect\u2019s friend to go on, which led officers to Logrono in the province of La Rioja where the friend was located and identified.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter more than a year of exhaustive analysis of evidence, the alleged aggressor was identified, a man known to police who was of no fixed abode.<\/p>\n \u201cHe is a 22-year-old Moroccan. He was accused on suspicion of rape.\u201d<\/p>\n The suspect is understood to have been released on bail after appearing before a judge in a closed-door court hearing. <\/p>\n The judicial investigation continues.<\/p>\n A number of British holidaymakers went to police to report sex crimes this year in Spain, with several others being arrested on suspicion of carrying them out.<\/p>\n Last month a British man was charged with raping the female friend of his son at a Magaluf hotel and warned he faces up to nine years in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n The 43-year-old\u2019s lawyers failed to strike a plea bargain deal with state prosecutors at a court in Majorca on October 19.<\/p>\n The hearing ended with a trial date being set next February over the alleged sex attack in May.<\/p>\n The suspect, who has not been named by the police or court officials ahead of his trial, was held at Palma Airport over the alleged rape after \u201cpacking his bags and trying to return to the UK hours later.\u201d<\/p>\n The British woman, thought to be around 20, told detectives she was forced to have sex after spending the last night of her holiday in the same room as her friend and his dad.<\/p>\n She slept in the same room because she was returning to Britain hours later and had already checked out of her own room, she told cops.<\/p>\n The older man was said to have surprised her in the middle of the night as she was fast asleep in the sofa and did not stop despite her waking up and begging him to.<\/p>\n She said he \u201ctook advantage\u201d of the fact she had consumed a large amount of alcohol.<\/p>\n Reports at the time said the dad\u2019s son was still out partying.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/newspress-collage-23507723-1692177963891.jpg\")
