Gavin and Stacey originally ran for three series between 2007 and 2010, before the cast reunited for the one-off Christmas special in 2019.<\/p>\n
It starred Mathew Horne and Joanna Page as the titular lovebirds, who\u00a0navigate their family lives in Essex and Wales.<\/p>\n
The 2019 Christmas special was watched by 17.1 million viewers \u2013 making it the UK’s most-watched scripted TV programme of the 2010s.<\/p>\n
Talking about when she first received her script, star Alison Steadmann revealed how she knew the show would be a hit.<\/p>\n
She said: ‘Pam’s first scene, when she’s lying with cucumbers on her eyes, and Gavin comes in and goes, ‘all right Mum?’, and she says, ‘well no I’m not actually’… It was one of the best [shows].’<\/p>\n
And while fans have pleaded for the cast to reunite for another special in the future, star Mathew recently said it’s less likely.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During on Graham Norton’s Virgin Radio show, Mathew added how difficult it was to get the ensemble together for the 2019 Christmas special, which was later declared the most-viewed non-sporting event in a decade.<\/p>\n
He said: ‘Obviously, the BBC would like more. James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] have always said that they would only do more if they had a story and a reason to do it.<\/p>\n
