Chilling CCTV showed three hooded men deliberately reverse a buggy into the garage doors in a brazen attempt to smash their way in.

But the trio left empty-handed after the din from the crash woke the family – and barking of their pet dog caused them to flee.

Neil, of Abersychan, Pontypool, said the family was sound asleep at the time when they were shaken awake.

He said: ‘They haven’t done it subtly. They’ve used an unusual thing to ram the door and made a hell of a noise.

‘It’s not something you would ever expect to happen to you, but three people on an agricultural buggy ram-raided my garage.

‘They smashed the door down after two o’clock in the morning. It woke me up, and the dog, who scared them off. Then they drove off.’

Footage showed the raiders carefully manoeuvre the buggy between two parked cars on the family’s driveway before smashing into the garage wall.

The three jumped from the buggy to enter the garage but seconds later hopped back in to make their getaway.

Mr Lewis said: ‘Everyone needs to be aware that there are people out there who will do whatever they can to get into someone’s house.’
