Photographers have hailed the ‘unbelievable’ moment they captured a ‘halo’ around the moon while observers compared it to a ‘nighttime rainbow’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Good Morning Britain meteorologist Laura Tobin said the phenomenon is caused\u00a0by the refraction of moonlight from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.<\/p>\n
Many people took to social media to share photos they took of the halo,\u00a0including Angie Burns, a TV and radio presenter at Marlow FM.<\/p>\n
Did YOU see this?<\/span><\/span> Email katherine.lawton@mailonline.co.uk\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ms Burns, who lives near Wokingham, said she managed to capture the rare sight from her front door on Saturday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘It was the first time I’ve seen something like this so close,’ she said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Geographer Simon Collins, 57, said he was ‘delighted’ to catch a glimpse of the moon with a halo around it\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The moon halo over Newtown Creek on the Isle of Wight on Saturday evening<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Angie Burns, who lives near Wokingham, said she managed to capture the rare sight from her front door on Saturday night<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The halo around the Moon above houses in Staffordshire. A cat can be seen on the roof, illuminated by the moon\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘(It was) unbelievable and yet tranquil.’<\/p>\n Geographer Simon Collins, 57, said he was ‘delighted’ to catch a glimpse of the moment.<\/p>\n ‘I’m a keen weather observer (and) run a local weather station so am always delighted to see lovely weather phenomena as so many others did last night as well,’ he said after taking a photo of the moon in Reigate, Surrey on Saturday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n Some described witnessing the occurrence as ‘amazing’, while others said it was ‘very weird’ and ‘like a nighttime rainbow’.<\/p>\n
