The UK is bracing for yet another snowy deluge later this week after temperatures plummeted last week, according to the Met Office.

Parts of the country including north and central Scotland, northern England and the Midlands are set to see some snow and hail today (Monday, December 4) which will continue into tomorrow. Rainfall is expected elsewhere in the country, including in the south of England and parts of Wales.

But a larger spate of snowfall is expected on Wednesday evening (December 6). A weather front will first sweep across Northern Ireland bringing hail and rain before heading to Scotland and northern England.

Most of Scotland is expected to see either snow or hail. Meanwhile parts of England including Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield will also see bouts of hail, weather maps showed.

The snow and ice is expected to make way for rain by Thursday morning (December 7). More snow and hail is expected in Scotland on Thursday and Friday, while the rest of the country will continue to see rain.

The Met Office said many of the downpours would be fairly light, however. It said on its website: "Frost and fog clearing then bright spells on Wednesday. Wet and windy weather arriving from the southwest, pushing north and east into Thursday and Friday, with some initial hill snow."
