Sam Smith proved they haven’t lost the power to get people talking as they took home the Cultural Innovator Trophy at the British Fashion Awards on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n The singer, 31, was\u00a0honoured for creating viral fashion moments, such as their unforgettable <\/span>latex clad appearance at the 2023 Brit Awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The hitmaker, who identifies as nonbinary and uses gender neutral pronouns, has had plenty of noteworthy moments over the course of their career from their fashion choices to statements they have made.<\/span><\/p>\n Not all of these have been received well however and Sam has found themselves on the end of crticism on more than one occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n As the star takes home the coveted honour, MailOnline takes a look back at some of their wackiest moments.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sam Smith has raised eyebrows plenty of times over the years with their wacky moments\u00a0<\/p>\n The star has become well known in recent years for their eccentric fashion sense (Sam pictured performing at The O2 Arena earlier this year)<\/p>\n Sam raised eyebrows back in March 2020 when they posted a photo of themselves appearing to be struggling with the Covid-19 lockdown in their \u00a312milllion mansion.<\/p>\n The singer shared their varying ‘stages of a quarantine meltdown’ as they spent time at home amid the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n Wearing a pained expression on their face in two snaps shared to Instagram,\u00a0the second image saw Sam hold their head in their hands and appear to cry.<\/p>\n Sam’s post came after they wished their followers the best amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis, as they admitted they were feeling ‘bored s**tless’ at home.<\/p>\n Speaking to the camera in a three-part Instagram video, they said: ‘Hello everyone!\u00a0This is a weird, weird, weird time, oh my gosh, very, very strange.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘I’m currently in my house. I have got a bit of a headache and allergies but I think I’m alright. But I wanted to stay in just to be safe.<\/p>\n ‘This is a weird time.\u00a0I wanted to reach out to every one of you right now, and send my love. I hope you’re okay.’<\/p>\n Sam lives in a \u00a312m mansion in London which they upped security measures at after being burgled twice in just one year.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sam raised eyebrows back in March 2020 when they posted a photo of themselves appearing to be struggling with the Covid-19 lockdown in their \u00a312milllion mansion<\/p>\n Earlier this year, viewers of the BBC’s The One Show were left baffled after Sam claimed they dreamed of becoming a ‘fisher-them’ on the programme.<\/p>\n The singer was asked about their fishing hobby before correcting a presenter who appeared to ‘misgender’ them by asking whether they would like to be a ‘fly fisherman’.<\/p>\n The non-binary pop star, who uses the pronouns they\/them, was speaking on the show following their raunchy performance at the Brit Awards, which sparked more than 100 Ofcom complaints.\u00a0<\/p>\n One Show host Ronan Keating asked Sam Smith: ‘You’re a big fan of fishing?’<\/p>\n The Stay With Me singer replied: ‘I do love fishing, yes! Yeah, I’d love to be a fisher-them.’<\/p>\n The host asked: ‘What, like a fly fisherman?’<\/p>\n Sam Smith corrected: ‘I’d be any type of fisher-them.<\/p>\n ‘I think I would like to, one day, I’d just like to end my days fishing. Like sitting on a bank.’<\/p>\n They added: ‘I do it on the sea and I do it on lakes. I’ve never done it alone, someone’s almost taught me.’\u00a0<\/p>\n Many online expressed their confusion at the term used by the singer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n One Twitter user shared the video, saying: ‘What fresh linguistic hell is this?’<\/p>\n Sam has also attracted much attention for their raunchy stage performances in recent years.\u00a0<\/p>\n The star made headlines earlier this year for for Ofcom told MailOnline: ‘We received 106 complaints about The Brit Awards on ITV1 on 11 February.<\/p>\n ‘The majority of complaints related to Sam Smith\u2019s performance, with the remainder about the use of offensive language and consumption of alcohol.’<\/p>\n It comes just a week after Grammy viewers slammed Smith and Petras over their ‘satanic’ performance of Unholy.<\/p>\n Sam had earlier appeared on the red carpet wearing a quirky balloon-like latex outfit made by fashion designer Harri.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Unholy singer has also drawn much attention for their eccentric fashion sense.<\/p>\n Sam went viral online for their red carpet look at this year’s BRIT Awards which consisted of a rubber suit with dramatically flared arms and legs.<\/p>\n In April, during their GLORIA Tour, Sam took to the stage in a devil costume complete with a corset, fishnet tightss and thigh-high black boots.<\/p>\n They also went for a bold look at this year’s Grammy Awards, arriving on the Achievement Award on behalf of Valentino Garavani from Gwyneth Paltrow.\u00a0<\/p>\n The award celebrated Charlotte’s illustrious career as a beauty entrepreneur and makeup artist, her immense contributions to the beauty campaigns of fashion’s key players, and her ground-breaking global beauty company.\u00a0<\/p>\n Tilbury has worked on over 180 magazine covers and over 600 editorial and advertising campaigns, creating iconic runway looks for fashion shows all over the world, working with over 100 designers and up to 40 shows a season.<\/p>\n To celebrate the iconic moment, Charlotte was joined by family, friends and brand muses at The Royal Albert Hall in London for the Fashion Awards ceremony.<\/p>\n The sensational line-up hosted by Charlotte Tilbury for this year\u2019s
